Year 2 class teacher
Hacettepe University, Primary Education
Our class library has 400 books; every child reads at least 40 of them a year.
In Year 2 reading becomes fluent and maths moves to measuring and money. The class has its own vegetable bed in the garden; all year they sow, measure, weigh and record.

In Year 2 children move from learning to read to reading to learn. Twice a week they borrow books from the class library and talk about what they read in short presentations.
Maths goes out into the garden: how many steps, how many metres is the bed? How many centimetres did the beans grow in a week? What will the seeds from the market cost? Measuring, weighing, money and reading tables are practised with real jobs.
The year's project is "A year in the garden": the class follows a seed for a whole year and finally cooks its own harvest in the kitchen workshop.
