A year in the garden

“How does a seed spend a year?”

A year in the garden

Year 2 grew beans, lettuce and wheat in their own vegetable bed for a whole year; every week they measured, weighed and recorded, and cooked their harvest in the kitchen workshop.

In September we started with an empty bed and a box of seeds. Every week children measured the bed, recorded seedling heights with a ruler and added them to the class's big graph.

In winter the greenhouse came into use; lettuce was harvested in spring and beans in summer. On harvest day the kitchen workshop made shepherd's salad and beans in olive oil.

Come and sit in one of our classes one morning.

A school visit takes 45 minutes; you see the classes, workshops and garden while lessons are on.
